The CBT is the first step to ride on two wheels.

The CBT allows people 16 years old to ride a learner legal moped (up to 50cc) and if you are 17 or over it will allow you to ride a learner legal motorcycle up to 125cc (typically capable of 65mph) which will at least allow you to keep up with traffic, easy parking and £15 per year road tax.

The CBT is split into 5 elements, each one must be completed before moving on to the next.

Element A. Eyesight test, overview of the day and a discussion about protective wear.
Element B. Learning the controls of the machine and going over daily and weekly checks.
Element C. Learning to ride the bike.
Element D. Pre-road ride brief
Element E. 2 hour road ride (minimum)

Once all the Elements have been completed to a satisfactory level you will be issued with a CBT certificate.

A CBT does not allow you to carry pillion passengers or ride on the motorway and you must display L Plates.

To Take the CBT you will need to have a valid UK provisional licence or a full UK driving licence with provisional motorcycle entitlement. If you have Full driving licence from a European country you will need to apply for a UK counterpart from the DVLA.
